It has been a very busy week.
Last Thursday I went home to get some rest afer my ankles started swelling pretty badly at work. I spent all weekend "taking it easy" (sorta) and the swelling was still there.
Sunday, the swelling was very bad and when I took my blood pressure at home, it was sky high. We later found out that was partly due to faulty home equipment, but by that point, I'd already called the doctor and he asked me to meet him at the hospital for some tests. I had a non stress test, my blood pressure monitored, and my urine checked. They sent me home and had me come back again on Monday for the same round of tests plus some bloodwork. My doctor didn't like my blood pressure on Monday so he had me come back again yesterday when he put me on bedrest. Which was better than the alternative which was to take Emily sometime today! Instead I'm on bedrest and trying to take it easy so she can get in one more week.
I go back to the hospital for more tests on Friday and as long as my blood pressure is good, I can stay home this weekend only to report BACK to them on Monday for another check. If my bp is not good, we are probably having a baby on Friday.
So we've basically had a week of "you're having a baby, we just don't know when."
This morning, my ankles look better but my back is hurting. Oh! I did have a contraction yesterday that I felt in my back and I thought that my spine was breaking apart (okay, that's melodramatic but it hurt) and that was only the second contraction I felt that I knew for sure was a contraction. Yesterday (whoa! as I'm typing this, she just made one of those big movements that takes your breath away), I was at the doctor's office and while they were doing the fetal heart tones, the nurse asked if I was having a contraction and I said "no." Her response was "I think you are."
So we're in the wait and see category now but in the meantime, I'm to take it easy, sit with my feet elevated, float in the tub a few times each day and drink lots of water. So that's what I'll be doing. :) It is nice that it's a holiday weekend though because I'll at least have family around to visit with. I do NOT "rest" well. This sit and relax thing is very difficult for me. But I suppose it is practice. Plus it's nice because I know that once she's here, we won't have much time for rest!
Anyhow, it's been a long week but that's how things are shaping up. . . I'll try to keep you updated.
